Shallow Parser Tools for Indian Languages (SPT-IL) is a project funded by Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Government of India.
The main aim of this project is to build Shallow Parser Tools which are essential for Indian Language Technology Development.

This Project envisages to develop:

  • Morphological Analyzers that analyse every word that is produced in these languages. These are not only very basic but the most important of all the computational tools;

  • Automatic Parts of Speech Taggers that identify every word of its category in the context of other word(s), apparently they are very important in the development of parsers of these languages;

  • Automatic Chunkers that subgroup words in a text enabling access to larger syntactic categories. The three tools together make a very important and a comprehensive but a simple parser. Once this tool is available, language analysis and trasfer becomes easier.
