UGC SAP-DRS (SPECIAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAMME) Phase-I :-
The Centre for Applied Linguistics and Translation Studies was sanctioned the SAP-DRS program on "LANGUAGE TECHNOLOGY" as its thrust area of research by UGC for five years (01.04.2002-3103.2007) as 1st phase approval, vide letter No. F.5-29/2001(SAP-III), dt. 20th, March 2002.
The following tasks were set as objectives to be achieved towards the end of the program:
I. The development of inter-language structures of Indian Languages, and
II. Design explicit language processing procedures,
as a significant contribution to lay the firm linguistic foundation for:

IPDA ( INTEGRATED PROJECT ON DEVELOPMENT OF ANUSAARAKA ) :-
The Department of Electroncis (DoE), Govt. of India awarded a project for a period of three years (1996-1999) in collaboration with IIT, Kanpur.
The collaborative project aimed at technology development leading to production capability of several working Machine Translation (MT) systems between one Indian language and another. The product was focused on development of language accession system from several state official languages into Hindi, the Union’s official language. The state official languages included the following four from the four different parts of India – Telugu in the South, Bengali in the East , Marathi in the West an Punjabi in the North of India.
These Indian languages information technology tools which were developed in course of the Anusaaraka Project included one large scale MT software (Telugu – Hindi) and three laboratory prototypes (Bengali – Hindi, Marathi – Hindi and Punjabi – Hindi). The faculty from CALTS: Dr. G. Umamaheshwar Rao (Teugu – Hindi), Prof. Udaya Narayana Singh (Bengali – Hindi), Dr. P.R. Dadegaonkar (Marathi – Hindi) and Dr. Panchanan Mohanty (Punjabi – Hindi) were assigned the responsibility of the Project.
The software were handed over to the funding agency, the Department of Electronics (DoE) (now part M.I.T.), Govt. of India.
Prof. Udaya Narayana Singh (CALTS) and Prof. Rajiv Sangal (IIT, Kanpur) are the coordinators.
NLP-TTP ( NATURAL LANGUAGE PROCESSING – TEACHERS TRAINING PROGRAMME ) :-
The Department of Electronics (DoE), Govt. of India awarded a project in March, 1991 to the Centre for ALTS. The project is for training university teachers and researchers in Linguistics in the area of Natural Language Processing and Computational Linguistics twice a year, for a period of four years.
